The Coordinator contacts various shelters and asks for a "wish list" of items for the Christmas Season. Volunteers then prepare ornaments to be hung on our Giving Tree. On the Third Sunday of Advent, parishioners provide gifts such as clothing, toiletries, toys and baby items, for homeless shelters, soup kitchens, homes for unwed mothers and alike. These various items are placed under our Giving Tree and are delivered to shelters throughout the city the following day.
The shelters ask that we do not wrap the gifts. Once they receive all the items, they sort them and give each client a Christmas present on Christmas morning. All baby items are stored and given to new mothers when needed throughout the year. These facilities rely on the kindness and generosity of St. Cecilia parishioners like you.
Please consider volunteering from 1-8 hours of your time to help us sort and box these gifts. We will also need approximately 8 volunteers to deliver them on Monday. This usually takes between two and three hours.
